Default Hey Horatio, the NY Giants drafted one of your countrymen today

As you probably already know, I am a huge fan of the NFL's New York Giants football team, an American Football team. The NFL conducted their annual draft this week, where the teams draft players from the college ranks into the NFL.

Anyway, today with their seventh round pick, the Giants selected Markus Kuhn from NC State, a German born player who came to the States to play college ball here. He's a big, strong kid who has a shot at making a roster. Just thought it was pretty cool!

I was curious as to how popular our style of American football is in your country? I know we had the now defunct NFL Europe over there, and I also know that the IFAF governs a club system that has German clubs. Outside of that, I don't know a lot. It's always been my understanding that the support the NFL Europe teams got there was mostly from American servicemen stationed in Germany. Has American Football found any popularity among the German people, or are kids like this rare?

Hey Tom, sorry but I am not watching any sports or reading sports news so I know nothing about how popular football has become in Germany. I have never seen it on TV but the games seem to gather more than 10.000 folks to watch so it seems to be moderately popular.
In the general public soccer is still by far the main sport in Germany with stuff like handball, wintersports and based on the audience stats also football coming far behind it.

It's not uncommon for Exchange students to come to America to get rich in American Sports. It may not be extremely common in Football as in Basketball but it does happen. It's why Goodell is trying to expand to Europe.

-Oakland kicker Sebastian Janikowski is a veteran from Poland
-New York Giants defensive end Osi Umenyiora , who was born in London and has roots in Nigeria,
