I think that MMoore has a point about the way TV has changed over the last decade or so, it's so hard for new shows to gain a foothold and those that aren't perceived to do well straight away are just axed, and for a show that would likely have a high budget and production values I don't know how well Trek would do.

10-15 hiatus is pretty realistic, I certainly want to see it back but am pretty cynical about how well it would do.

I think it's realistic to say that a new Trek show would be facing a very different TV landscape than even when ENT left the air. Because shows do, as Roysten says, get less of a chance to survive on network TV than they used to (given it's general ratings I'm amazed that 'Fringe' made it to 4 seasons on Fox) and that means you have to grab attention from the start and then keep it.

Ironically, pay cable seems to allow shows more time to survive with lesser ratings but I don't see that being an avenue for a Trek series unless CBS gives Trek up to one. Plus cable seems to offer broader scope for content.

Well, I am grateful for Star Trek movies. They are things we can still look forward to and with the great success of the 2009 film, there are sure to be more. And even though I'm not a fan of the Alternate Reality, I am glad that 2009 opened a new door for people to explore more of the world of Star Trek.

Trek is now a movie franchise, Paramount likes it that way because they get to rake in the big bucks. I'm sorry, but that's all Trek is to these big shot corporate execs, just another money making franchise.

An animated series is a possibility, but likely not til the trilogy has run its course, examples; Clone Wars animated series launched after Revenge of the Sith, Transformers: Prime animated sereis launched after Dark of the Moon. Its to maintain interest and a fan base until the next trilogy of films comes out.

I don't see a series at this point in time. I don't think any studio can afford long running Sci-fi shows anymore. A mini series perhaps.

Right and depending on the success it could turn out like Battlestar Galactica and end up being a series.
