Looks like MTV was right, that IS a Starfleet emblem on Cumberbatch's shirt (his stunt double too). Could Cumberbatch be Charlie Evans, since Mitchell was already seen in the IDW New Timeline comic?

My bet is that Cumberbatch is playing an all-new character. The IDW comics will handle all the characters and remade stories from previous TOS episodes, IMO.
