I've seen a few films this year that were OK. 'Carnage', 'The Grey', 'The Woman in Black' and 'Chronicle'.

The last three I didn't love, but they weren't a total waste of time either.

I want to see The Woman in Black. I may go this next week.

I wasn't too impressed because I felt it took too many steps away from the book itself which I've read a couple times.

But it does have a couple of good old school ghosty scares and sequences in it. And it runs less than 90 mins!

I've never read the book. Do you think I should read it first, or go see the movie and then read it?

Personally, I would leave reading the book. Although I'm not sure it would matter as long as you knew it was not a literal adaption.

But it's enough to say that the primary character's backstory and arc in the film is completely different with a totally different ending to the book.

So there's no real comparison to make.

I see. I guess I'll just go see it and read the book whenever I get around to it. I haven't been reading much lately. I go through phases of heavy reading and then almost no reading.

It's not a big book. I read it in a single day once. Barely a couple hundred pages.
