Default Don't sweat the small stuff

It really doesn't matter whether separate ships have separate insignia, or whether the Enterprise was built in space or on a planet, or how old Kirk and Spock are relative to each other.

They're not what makes Star Trek special. I'll love this movie just the same regardless of whether Klingons have red or purple blood, or whether they're using lithium or dilithium crystals, as long as the things that make Star Trek uniquely Star Trek are present. Those are things like treating the audience as intelligent people, portraying an optimistic view of the future, and reminding us how gosh darn cool it would be to fly around the galaxy in giant starships.

I'm looking forward the the new movie as a new creative team's re-interpretation of a familiar idiom. I'm looking forward to the very human interactions between our beloved characters (and how the new cast will portray them), the undertones of social commentary, and the hint of campiness that enables me to enjoy the 5th viewing of an episode as much as the first. And I'm much more concerned that they might just make this another "boobs & explosions" action movie with a limp plot and an annoying marketing campaign than I am about things mentioned in the Animated Series.

(I will need a metaphasic shield for the flaming I'll soon receive)

Very well said. This movie is a reimagining and a rebirth of our beloved Star Trek. Honestly, I'm looking forward to the changes and a few surprises. This movie is going to be the greatest thing since The Undiscovered Country. I hope it breathes new life into the franchise and we get many more movies in years to come.

You won't get any flaming from me. I think we all feel they way you do, but some of us just like to debate the "small stuff."

But, at the core, you are 100% right.

You are right, but what is so difficult about keeping things that have been established? Facts don't need to be changed, I don't understand the problem in that.

The small stuff isn't important, but it's fun to argue about.
It must just be a Trekkie thing - enjoying arguing about unimportant stuff like those things you mentioned.
My arguing (I can't speak for everyone) is all in good, harmless fun.

Besides, There isn't anything else to do!
The ST:XI marketing campaign has been silent for months!
We all really need some Trek!
