Default I understand the release delay now.

Look, everyone, I want to apologize for the way I reacted to Paramount pushing back the release date of "Star Trek". I just wanted to see it really bad. But I have a theory now. When they looked at the dailies, they figured it wouldn't be enough to release it this Christmas, so they decide it'll have better luck next May. I acted like a jerk threatening to boycott this movie just because of their decision and for that I am truly sorry. The truth is I'm not really a huge Trek fan, and I probably won't be until at least my 18th birthday because I figured that's when the true fan is really developed. So no hard feelings?

It's got nothing to do with the dailies.

There was a scheduling gap due to the writers' strike and Paramount bumped Star Trek back. That's it. Shooting is still scheduled to end when it was originally, so it's not about content.

The movie will be prepared for release by the original date.
Abrams has confirmed this.
Paramount is shelving the film from December to May for bigger ticket sales.
The reason is because someone high up at paramount is REALLY confident in this movie.
That is a good thing.
I am happy that they think it will do well.
I really hope it does.

I wonder if the Ferengi are running Paramount?

I hope that nothing leaks between end of production and may 2009...

That would be very bad.

They should hide it somewhere nobody will look!

What I meant to say is that they thought the footage looked so terrific, they figured there wouldn't be enough people for Christmas, so next May is a better gamble.

Yeah, it's a combination of what Paramount has seen so far on the dailies, and the writers strike that just recently ended.

Spock84, that was a nice post. I hope you stick around... forgive us for funning with you in the other thread...it's our way, we're fun!

I believe you are right...from what I've read the people paying for the movie have loved what they've seen and are sure this is a blockbuster...so, they want to give it a release date that's appropriate to its potential.

And we are so very happy about that! Having to wait a few months is not too much to ask for a blockbuster.

A triumphant comeback for TREK!

A new generation of loyal Trekkies!

I'm proud to be here to see it!
