We've known that for awhile now. They fell behind because JJ was working on other projects such as Super 8. The ball is rolling now though. It's better this way, they'll get his full attention instead of rushing to meet a deadline.

That's a long way off.
That's 3 year gap. I wouldn't be surprise if it's cancelled. This doesn't seem standard with other sucessful motion picture pushing for a sequel.

It's not going to be cancelled. Paramount wants the film made, the team is ready or close to it. Production is already in the pre-production phase and the actors have been told to get ready.

The only thing that will cancel the movie is if our tickets are punched by one of those asteroids out there… they have even discovered some moving in the same orbit as the Earth on a slightly higher elliptic and not that far away… its an intergalactic game of billiards and were the bloody 8 ball!
