Saw that article awhile ago… thought it was a crappy idea.

I think I'd rather have my eyes bleached, thanks.

What's wrong with redeveloping the TOS universe as rerouted by J.J. Abrams? Why does everything have to revolve around Berman's ideas??

I'm cranky today. I think I'll occupy someone. Or something.

People seem to forget that Berman hasn't been a usurper but the approved heir of the throne. One can accuse him of many things but certainly not of having been a bad grailkeeper.
At the risk of getting lynched by all the TOS fans, Gene rightly dismissed TOS as the first trial and TNG as the real thing.
There is something reactionary about returning to the roots, about fetishizing characters instead of concepts and ideas (hey, I always said that I am a hardcore Roddenberryian). I wouldn't wanna see a second Picard, not for all the latinum in the quadrant.

Now let the stoning begin ...

I can't say I like the idea overly much.

As for a series in general I don't think it's time yet by a long way. Hate to say it but I think we need a gap like we had between TOS and TNG. Let the new film series have its run of movies then once the dust settles start new with something different. Like Horatio said, no TOS or TNG rehashes.

By the second paragraph I was already drowning in fanwank.

I'm fine with a new 23rd C show in the alt timeline (truth be told I think it's really the best environment to set it in for production design continuity matters not to mention aformentioned 'new' continuity storywise as well) but I don't see any series of any description or content coming for a few years yet.

What would be the point of that?

Roddenberry may have changed his mind (repeatedly, frequently and at times even entirely unspecifically and vaguely) but the respective viewer/fan is under no obligation to follow him down that road or anyone else who ran the ship after his death.
