Default Is life on Earth about end?

With all the recent Earthquakes and the approaching comet Elenin, could there really be a connection? Are the doomsayers right or just misguided?

Your thoughts if you please…

I think most of the doomsayers are profiteers looking to sell books and DVD's to fearful people.

So true.

So how are things in New Jersey?

There was an Earthquake yesterday, that was fun. I missed out though, I didn't feel it.

I was awake, I just didn't feel it at all. I guess it was the building I was in or something. I asked my brother and my sister about it and they felt it.

I see.

Quakes are pretty rare here in Australia, I remember a quake that shook the furniture in my bedroom back in the 70's, that was put down to the shifting of water in Warragamba Dam, our major water supply for Sydney.

I don't believe there is any scheduled "Doomsday", but there are many things that could at least cripple life on Earth. The Yellow Stone volcano comes to mind first.

I'm not saying it will happen though.

Yes, 50 square miles molten lava ready to explode from the ground would be something to worry about.

The abundance of apocalyptic visions is a neat way to not have to deal with the real, slow changes that happen, respectively to become resistant to the real dangers.
You watch a movie like "The Day after Tomorrow" or "Armageddon" or read books about this Mayan crap and then whatever happens in the real world seems tiny compared to the end of the world scenarios through which you have just been. Sure, just fictionally but it nonetheless does the trick.
