No, they wouldn't have.........................because they had no reason to believe there WAS a way back from whatever had happened to him.

He was dead. The energy ribbon (they never even knew it WAS a Nexus anyway, no-one did until Picard got the download from Guinan while IN the Nexus in the first place) was gone.

There was nothing to investigate.

Very true Kevin. That being said, Starfleet would want to know all about the Nexus; a mysterious ribbon of energy that can destroy vessels and life on planets. They would at least want to know if there was any way to predict when and where the Nexus would appear, don't you think?
