But it won't be ready for June 2012.
http://www.deadline.com/2011/07/jj-a...-release-slot/ Which I think is essentially not going to be a massive surprise.

They already did remake TWOK respectively the other remake of TWOK, NEM, the last time (and I wouldn't be surprised if they'd do it again). It's all just an eternal repetition of MeyerTrek sans Meyer's intellect.

Shame they did not come to the conclusion to just have JJ produce or something along those lines. I also would prefer some new writers, but I know this is not reality.
I sure hope the wait ends up with a better product, but I doubt it. And for the record, the last movie was not bad, I enjoyed it. Just feel like the script could have been better. (and not in a fanboy way either)

Loved the first movie, eagerly (yet patiently) awaiting the second.

I think the film had it's own problems - which vary person to person - and successes, but for me several of the Trek films have had weaker stories and poorer execution, so, while there's 'always room for improvement' as the saying goes, by the same token, there are worse Trek films already in existence IMO.

Based on the Trekmovie.com comments, more people want the movie in 2012 and are pissed that this team has taken so long to make it. I don't quite fall into that camp, but damn...there are plenty of unhappy Trekkies.
Speaking of the first film, I tried watching it the other day and (sadly) had to admit it comes across a bit lacking in depth. At least, that's the only way I can describe my feelings. Might be that the excitement has finally wore off or that I'm just now admitting that the movie is almost too fast-paced. Hopefully, JJ can slow things down this time and give us more story and less 'splosions. At this point, I just hope that it doesn't suck whenever it releases.

It takes time I guess to step back from the wow factor of first impressions.
