This was from an old thread on original/remastered TOS. Rather than bring back that thread (which wasn't on my topic anyway) I thought I'd start a new one.

I'm curious what others think of the Blish adaptations of TOS.

1. I think he worked from early script drafts, so sometimes his stories don't quite match the final episode.

2. I think they are so short, especially when compared to the Log stories that Alan Dean Foster wrote for TAS.

3. Occasionally it's frustrating to remember a cool quote from the series, only to find that it doesn't exist in the story. (An offshoot of #1, I assume.)

I'd like to see someone go back and write "true" adaptations of the original episodes, more like the Foster ones which used 1/4 of a book to cover a 25 minute episode. Blish often used 1/6 of a book to cover a 50 minute episode and often lost a lot of the flavor.

On the other hand, TOS was so long ago that maybe no one would bother to buy book versions of them anymore.

Anyone have opinions on this?
