How do you listen to music? MP3 player, iPhone, Radio, internet, vinyl?

If the 50’s and 60's were the era of the record, in the 70's we had tape, (lovely 8-tracks and cassettes!), and the Sony Walkman, then CD's in the 80’s and now MP3's.

LOL! But in all honesty, most of what I listen to are either CD or MP3. I think I lost all my old cassette tapes in storage years ago. Sometimes, I'll even listen to minidisc if I had any music transferred to it.

CDs were around in the 80s? I thought they were a 90s thing.

I find that CDs have greater quality than mp3s. I think CDs are over 1000kb compared to the <192kbs of the average mp3. Though saying that I'm not sure how much of a difference you can hear with the human ear.

But to answer the question, generally on my computer as digital media.

Roysten!! I'm shocked! Of course CD's were around in the 1980s!

(Oh, Crap - that means I'm getting older and you are younger....................damn!)

Anyway, I still have CD's and still buy them but not as often as I used to. Nowadays I normally flick between the iPod's I have and my iTunes library or use the computer to listen via free but legal sites like Spotify.

For my favourite artists/groups etc I still like to buy the physical CD, but so much crappy music out there now I find sites like Spotify to be an excellent way of listening to new music (and older stuff as well) online for free but still being legal. I've managed to prevent myself wasting a whole load of money on some new folks' albums that turned out to be dreck.

On the other hand, I've been going to see bands live more and more the last few years as well where I can get to them.

Sorry, really shows my ignorance there! Apparently according to wikipedia they were first making appearances in the late 70s, would never have imagined that.

Have they improved over the years? In terms of capacity and quality I mean, or have they remained relatively constant in that time? (Until these last few years with DVDs and HD-DVDs, Bluray etc.)

I use Spotify as well, great way to listen to an album once you get used to the irritating adverts.

I'm the wrong person to ask about capacity etc unfortunately. I'm not particularly technical in that regard!

About Spotify - I kind of just treat as being a bit like the radio. Their presence doesn't bother me too much but it's usually the same adverts over and over. I get a lot of adverts for Scottish initiatives etc

Out of curiosity do you get adverts tailored to your local area/region of the UK as well?
