The Akira-Prise problem is actually less about the overall similarities in shape and configuration, but that the similarities are even in the small details. Ex-Astris-Scientia has a nice article about that.

So, the complaint is that the NX-01 is kind of a lame as5 kit-bash.

That being said: I dont care.

Being in the frame for a second or two hardly makes her a foreground ship. Two simple questions, have you been aware of the name of the ship without any background material like books, magazines, Memory Alpha or whatever and did you notice the shape when you first saw an episode of ENT?

I saw the Akira name in the Fact Files before I saw the ship on screen. And yes, I immediately saw the extreme similarities (just look at the two connecting struts).

The Akira looks better anyway.

OK, point taken. More casual viewers like me who didn't consume any background material have never noticed the Akira (and I have seen FC several times).

It's actually quite amazing how easily 24th Century starships were blown up by the end of DS9. Must have been budget cuts at the 'ol Starfleet shipyards...............

It's pretty much a foregone conclusion that by then one hit just blows them to smithereens.

Thats because Starfleet didnt do enough of all those 'Patroll Missions', that are boring like hell but give ships and crews XP points. And because most of those young hot shot captains usually forgett to go to their skills menue regularely to level up.

Here, Sisko and his team knew how its done right:

Neat.

I figured the writers just decided that things like 'shields' had ceased to exist in favour of an exploding ship!!!

I can't even help my dad shop for his third DVD player without once again hearing his endless "they don't make things to last like they used to" rants.

Guess he's right.
