Default The Star Trek: The Next Generation that almost was…

It might be darn near impossible to imagine anyone else telling his Number One to "Make it so" on the bridge of the Enterprise-D other than Patrick Stewart but before the show went to air it was a distinct possibility.

Here is another person to actually film a later aborted role as Janeway...

Though most here probably know the person anyway by now, your post made me remember the original casting.

Yaphet Kotto as a frenchman? Ha! The guy can barley correctly pronounce English. Thank god Berman pushed Patrick.

Rosalind Chao (Mrs. Miles O'Brian) as Tasha. I don't think that would have flown.

Reggie Jackson, Tim Russ, or Wesley Snipes as Geordi? They really wanted a Black actor for that role didn't they?

At times I've imagined David Niven playing Picard, i think he could have done the role with a decent french accent. Too bad he would have been too old for the role when it came up had he lived.

Interesting that several of those actors ended up finding roles in Trek later (Chao, Ryan, Russ, Menyuk and Nickson).

Jeffrey Combs as Riker could have been another possibility. As well as watsisface who played Okona.

They went for a very great central cast in the end, but I could see some of those other actors also doing a fair job.

Is it just my imagination or does that Andrea Sawatzki person look like cross between Gates MacFadden and oh idunno... Garfield.

I remember there was a story that Frakes wasn't the first choice for Riker, but at the last minute the one they were originally going to go with flubbed the audition and Frakes was cast instead.

I don't know which of the other contenders it was.
