Spock could "Meld" with it and save the ship and crew. Other than that, have Kinser as the only crew member immune to it.

Next Movie idea!

The Enterprise has an on-board infection that starts turning the crew into "Night of the Living Dead" zombies! Bones traces the infection back to a woman on the planet that Kirk just returned from! Hmmmmm!
