I know this tricorder app on my Droid shouldn't be entertaining me this much and yet it does. I can probably sit here for hours with it set to the magnetic sensor and moving it closer and further away from my computer and watch the readings change.

I have the "Hero" model. Is the app available through regular channels?

Not cutting edge or anything but it makes use of the built in sensors in the phone which is why it amuses me. The app can be found on the downloads tab of the site, like the second file down.

I've been looking at Android phones for my next upgrade. The iphone just costs more than I need.

But I'm not sure what handset to get, although the HTC Hero actually reminded me of a Tricorder anyway.

I have the "Hero" and it is a great deal on a phone that does so much. I have converted mp3's and movies to play on it. I don't have too many apps other than a Photoshop app for editing on the run and an app to edit mp3's to ringtones or change their length. Still for others there are plenty of apps.

Too bad the tricorder one here is not usable on mine until I get the next firm upgrade.
