Default Idea for Next Movie? Just a passing thought!

I started thinking about the possibility when I saw this post in "What's wrong with the " Greenwood Wants Pike out of the Wheelchair & Back IN Action!

I agree with Bruce Greenwood too. I'd dearly love to see Pike back for the sequel---and out of the wheelchair!! No need of any white hair either.
Bruce was an amazing Pike and I'd rather see more of him than anyone else.
If the writers are smart, they'll make Pike a big part of the story!
Would anyone think that there could be a ST movie with the emphasis on "Pike" as the main character? Say...for instance that Kirk and company got snatched by a "New Civilization" (Talosians?) and Pike had to take command of an older Star Ship (that could look more like the old "E"...wish...wish...wish) and go to their rescue. Sort of the original TV pilot, but with a good deal of role changes: Kirk in Pike's place on Talos and Pike gets to save the day! Hey! if they can even think about doing another Kahn, which may not be sooo bad, this might even be better as the general movie viewing public would be much less familiar with the (original) story.

Just thinking out loud ...again!

Sci-fi is about breaking boundaries, extending the limits of story-telling so I am all for such ideas. Just think about episodes told from the perspective of someone else than the crew of the Enterprise, e.g. First Contact or Distant Origin, they were great.
Yet I think that these ideas are more realistic on the small screen, the movies will be centred around the troika.

It's an interesting idea - I'm not sure how they could maybe push Pike to the fore after the first movie brought the crew together and so I would think, like H, that the triumverate would (and should) be foremost.

I guess part of my thinking on using a Talos-based idea is drawn from the fact that in the TOS'ish original pilot and taken further in "Menagerie", Spock had formed a deep devotion to Pike. But that aside, I think that it would make a good transition platform to showcase some of that which ties the "triumvirate" more closely together and allows for what were primary relationships in the "prime" universe, to at least become strong secondary relationships. eg: Spock to Pike, as someone who has a strong influence to Spock's "emotional" devotion and Kirk to Pike, as in Pike being a father figure to Kirk which would also allow for some character, and emotional development. (A scenario: What if Pike had to remain on Talos to save the "E", his "borrowed" rescue ship, and both crews?) A variation on Pike offering to stay on Talos in the original Pilot.

The difference in depth of the ties between the TOS triumvirate and the development they were taken to in TWOK was well beyond the former, showing the extent of that bond, which shaped our perceptions and expectations of who they were. Those bonds had been developed previously, but only revealed (in such strength) in TWOK. Which is one good reason to be careful about remaking that movie. It was as much a reveal of their character and bond,as the overriding battle with Kahn. Give them, the "new" crew, that kind of movie to show their strengths without remaking an already great movie.

I'd like to see Greenwood given his own Constitution class Starship, in a TV Series called "Captain Pike"!

Of course , during the movie, and while on Talos, Spock and Uhura would be making some "memories" for the Talosians to assimilate! (Oh I hope not!)

Well, what's the difference between recycling elements of 'The Cage' or elements of TWOK in the pursuit of that?

(Not that I have a big problem with Trek self-cannibalising itself or other sources since it's nothing new. I mean sure the Nemesis remake of TWOK sucks but that was an extreme example of Trek inbreeding).

That said, I think the TOS core friendship probably was long established in the series, which is why it was easier to then develop it in the films - thanks to more character/emotion based plots of the first few TOS films.

So you could have a story that takes the 'first steps' of the first film and then moves it into the proper friendship territory.

I'd be all for a movie or two featuring Captain Pike...

Heck, they could even introduce Captain April along the way, too.
