but don't you think Pine's Kirk needs guidance because he just became captain too soon in the last film just saying.

Soooooo, if the references to SW themes are in this movie, as many say, then (Obi-Wan aka Pike) should die to protect (Luke aka Kirk)? Don't forget that Luke almost was "taken" by the dark side.

Perhaps a take on Kirk's judgment calls in TOS with the "Prime Directive" could carry over into a new story with Pike having to suffer death to save Kirk from himself?

I've said it before on this board. Greenwood should get his own series.

I think in all honesty he is one of the best Star Trek Captains ever. He has charisma, appeal and loads of talent. Let's give him a five year TV run or at least a three movie deal!

I could live with a Pike series.

I absolutely agree!! I want to see Pike in the sequel and in all the movies that follow! Bruce Greenwood is far too good an actor to relegate to a cameo. He should definitely have a good role. If you've got him--use him!
AND I'm all for the 3 movie deal---or more.

While I'd love to see Pike in the next Movie...or better yet, in his own TV Series as Captain of a Starship...it can be extremely difficult to go from Admiral...back to Captian. Ask Cpt.Kirk from the original timeline.

Put him in an prototype "Connie" class vessel, one that old Spock describes to SF. It could work! As an Admiral, he could command it.

I really liked the Shat's emotional responses in the trial scene:

"James T. Kirk, it is the judgment of this council that you be reduced in rank to captain."

(Kirk just has that slight edge of regret in his countenance.)

"And that as a consequence of your new rank, you be given the duties for which you have displayed unswerving ability....the command of a starship."

(Kirk just has that edge of smile on his face.....knowing full well that the Klingons are REALLY gonna be pissed now.)
