So, I went to the screening tonight of Star Trek: First Contact at the Laemmle Royal theater and Brannan Braga was the guest speaker for that particular film. He was talking about his experience working on this film and also how he was a little tipsy because he just had been drinking with friends earlier. It was also his birthday. It was a great interview and it should be up soon on TrekMovie.com pretty soon. Anyway, near the end of the interview he asked the audience if we had any questions. Of course, I raised my hand and when he said, "Yes, the dude all the way in the back." I, like an idiot, turned behind me just to make sure if it was me he was referring to, and it was haha! He was all, "Yes, the guy who just turned around." Anyway, my questions was this: "So, which Enterprise is your favorite? D or E?" And he replied with, "Well, of course D, man. I have a much closer relationship with that ship since I've been working with it for such a long time."
Afterward, he was asked why the bridge lighting was so dark in Generations and he replied, "I thought it should have been the same lighting as it was on the television series. Having it dark like that just didn't work for me." But yeah, it was a great interview and right after he was done speaking the film started.

I would have asked why they decided to depart from scripted ST:Space Flight Chronology when they had used some of it to create TNG, especially since Rick Sternbach put such hard work into the book.

Jeez, the reason the lighting wasn't the same is because a TV screen at home is not the same as a movie screen and anyone with even passing knowledge will tell you that you have to light sets differently for the big screen if the same set is being used.
No-one told him this in 1994 when he was hanging around? Not that it was even as remotely dark as the bridge for FC and beyond anyway.

Hah, yeah it would have been a little weird to have such a bright bridge on the big screen. I mean, yes the bridge in the new film is very bright, but somehow it still fits for a theatrical feature. I guess that's simply because we never saw that bridge before the movie came out so there wouldn't really be anything to compare it to.

Speaking only for myself...
I can tell you in stunning detail what Braga did wrong.... He completely (FANBOY RANT, FANBOY RANT, FANBOY WHINE) and decided to (FANBOY LAMENT while totally spoiling any chance for a FANGASM). He totally ignored the spirit of (FANBOY LAMENT) and took Star Trek in a direction that (FANBOY INNOCENCE LOST and FANBOY CHILDHOOD RAPED). That's pretty much it in a nutshell. Capeche? ![]()

I still don't get it. He is partly or completely responsible for the stories of:
Identity Crisis, Schisms, Frame of Mind, Timescape, Parallels, All Good Things, Flashback, The 37's, Future's End, Distant Origin, Scorpion, Year of Hell, Living Witness, Timeless, Someone to Watch Over Me and STFC. That's 16 reasons to love him ![]()
