They play it up as some sort of lost scene when really it was all staged.

I wholeheartedly agree with the assessment that this was a scene recently shot to be added into the blu-ray of Return of the Jedi.

Now, in the novelization of Jedi, yes there is a scene where Luke is working on his new lightsaber. In the radio play, the scene is even more detailed.

But I could look at this and tell immediately that it was "recently" shot.

Lucas says this is just one of the "missing" scenes that will be put into the blu-rays of the SW movies.

Now, to ME,....here are the ACTUAL missing scenes because they were actually SHOT at the time of production for each film:

A NEW HOPE
-Luke looking up from his work into the sky with macrobinoculars to witness the star destroyer and the Tantive IV firing on each other (at the beginning of the movie)
-Luke's first reunion with Biggs at Tosche Station on Tatooine. It is there that we also meet Fixer, Deak, Camie (Fixer's hot girlfriend), and Windy. What follows is the scene where Biggs confides in Luke that he's going off to join the Rebel Alliance, and chastens Luke for sticking around for "another season".
-A brief scene with Han hanging out with a girlfriend in the cantina.

EMPIRE
-C-3P0 ripping a sign off of a door when Imperial troops enter Echo base. The sign is a warning that contained within are captured Wampas. The hapless snowtroopers become Wampa food.

JEDI
-Luke and company make their way back to the waiting X-wing and Falcon after crossing a fierce sandstorm.

If it is a new shoot it would seem rather easy to show up as such, since Hamill is alive and can testify as such.

Anyway, why do we need a shot with Han's g/f? we're never going to see her again anyway.

You guys don't know about Han's "gf"?

Check this out! http://www.atom.com/funny_videos/pink5/

There are "sequels" that are even better technically and plot wise, but this is a hoot. There are references to Han toward the middle/end.

The next one is: http://www.atom.com/funny_videos/pink5_strikes/
