Financial, yes.

Artistic? Eh...not so much. LOL Lucas was never known for his dialogue.

Well, if the movie does well, and it should, I am sure we will see 2 more sequels.

But??? what about after ST:11-13? If the movies do well, will they try to get the actors back, or go forward with another ship and crew?

hard to see four movies from this cast...but I certainly hope they move forward. Heck, this will be 10 years down the road btw...if we even have sequels.

Perhaps this explains some of the casting? None of these people are "a" list (and, mostly at ages where the "a" list has been achieved or is not going to be achieved)....perhaps the theory is that they'll view it as a reliable paycheck and so agree to stick around for movies beyond the first three.

Also they won't fall into the "Kristie Alley Trap" since they probably signed 3 picture deals, they won't ask for more money, if a sequel is made.

Right...and having all been in the business for awhile, they've likely already learned to cope with the "side issues" like partying and drugs....though, wait until they hit their first conventions!!

I think make a trilogy would be further coping STARWARS.Being this movie is a prequal to a degree there all ready copying the concept. Actually, I was hoping for a DS9 movie after this one. Perhaps with the title "Star Trek: Return of the Emissary".

gam, I think the only reason for the 3 movie deal is that's sort of industry standard...even though they knew that JK Rowling was writing 7 Harry Potter books, the actors were signed to 3 movie deals....and then had to be signed on again when it became clear that the movies were going to be big hits too.
