I was wondering if anyone knew if the new movie will be following the canon of the other star trek series? For example, will the movie take the Enterprise series into play, referencing how the NX-01 was the first warp 5 ship, etc..? I think I'd be disappointed if the movie didn't follow the Star Trek canon

It all depends on your definition of canon.

EC-
Man are you right!! bobbo- I think this film will deal more with the TOS era look and ideas. We might see a ship names Archer, or a building named after Tucker, or soemthing of that nature.

It's definitely not going to be exactly the same as the TOS of 1966. I'm pretty sure the core message and values of TOS are not going to change along with the essence of the already established characters. I also think they are going to try their best not to alter the existing cannon* when it comes to dates and events but things are definitely going to look different. They are changing the ship, uniforms, phasers ext. Repackaging the product to bring it in to today’s standard of what the future may look like. Lets face it technology has come a long way since 1966 and some of the things in TOS are pretty cheesy by today’s standards. I still love TOS but I don't see myself grabbing a handle in an elevator to tell it where to go anytime soon.

no I agree, I'm looking forward to how the revamp will bring TOS to a modern perspective. One of the things I noticed from the teaser trailer is that they're building enterprise on earth, whereas before they've used the dry dock in orbit around earth. I've always liked seeing ships in the dry dock and just the whole idea of building and maintaing ships in space, so I was a little disappointed to see that it was being built on earth. Thats where this whole thought of whether it would be canon or not came from

I don't think the images in the trailer will be used in the film. I personally think the ship will be built in orbit--only because the ship always looked to me like something that took advantage of a zero-gee environment.
But as far as canon or continuity is concerned, even if the film doesn't make the slightest mention of ENT that wouldn't mean that ENT didn't happen. It'd be different if the movie said something like "There was no Starfleet prior to the Federation," but I don't think that's going to happen...
