That's one of the reason's I hardly come here anymore.
People here are depressing and too nitpicky, or whiny, or thinks they
are an expert about everything.



The one person I was able to talk to the most, and look forward to
seeing here, has left this place for the same reasons.

But, I don't come here to debate like the rest of the board does, hence the reason why I post in 'off-topic' forum so much. I just want to have fun,
not freakin' impress the people that just want to tell me they're better than
me. I don't need to prove to people that I know my stuff, I do enough of that crap at work. I just want idle chit-chat with people that are similar to me, or at least enjoy posting with me.

It's another reason why I don't even post in the movie thread so much because most people there just want to pick apart your opinions and make ya feel like an idiot for not being them.

Unless it's something I'm VERY passionate about, you won't see much of my 'brains and logic' over in the movie forum, or if I just feel like adding my two cents to someone that already posted what I was thinking, but couldn't put into the exact words.

I'm sorry, I don't have Star Trek books, I didn't memorize all episodes of
Star Trek, I don't get 'technobabble'...

I just want to see the actual personalities you all possess, which is most
defined here, in off-topic discussions.

Debate is part of what goes on, but it's not all of it.

Eris, you seem intelligent and well read in the posts I have seen.

Sometimes it is about acknowleging soemone's point, even if you don't agree. You'll see it in mine alot. "Yes, Blah blah, you make a good point, but I feel..."

Trek is pretty emotional for some fans. Others use it as way to project what they feel inside.

Bring and take away from this what YOU want. But please don't just go away.

Yea, I like how you state your opinions, instead of straight out disagreeing, you let him/her know you understand why that person would feel that way.

And I know I've come off as rude in a few recent posts over there, but it's just the way the thread was flowing that sorta 'put me in that mood'

I may not frequent this place as much as the other two boards I visit, but I can't really see myself just 'going away' unless every topic became a heated discussion .
Besides, if this place stays online for years, it'd be nice to be considered an 'elder'

After a long day at the office I look forward coming here and reading stuff about Star Trek and everything else that is Sci-Fi, as well as a few other topics. I just want to relax and kick back. I've read some great stuff, marveled at the pics and laughed at the humor. And during the process I gotta say I'm greatly impressed with the insight and knowledge of the posters here.

This is not a smack board, but sometimes we do get a little testy. We do take our Star Trek seriously.

I hear you Eris. It seems lately when I get into discussions, it's no longer a discussion but a constant fight to defend your point of view, which to me is uninteresting so I've backed off of posting. Nothing like throwing your opinion out there and then getting preached at to turn you off of posting. Still some interesting discussion going on in many of the threads but a good deal of it has gone negative.

From what I've read from other posts, it seems startrek.com is worse. I've never been much into this posting/forum thing, just joined this cause I'm fired up about this movie! For the most part, some really interesting, thought provoking debate going on, which is always good, but lately, as Zardoz said, things seem to be getting more negative.

You all bring up a very good point, something definitely worth considering in my own posts.

Perhaps part of the problem is there's so little "news" to discuss... but then again, per some of your points, that might only add fuel to the fire.

I hope such thoughtful fans aren't turned off by the tone of some debates, if only to provide counterexamples which may balance things out better. Cheers to you Eris, in any case.
