Default If the Enterprise-D were a real starship...

Someone on Trek BBS is doing a full scale Galaxy class starship, interior AND exterior, on Google sketchup, using real world metric system measurements. It's interesting to see how big the ship REALLY is!

http://trekbbs.com/showthread.php?t=92098

Published dimensions:
length: 842.5 meters
beam : 487 meters
depth : 137 meters

Real world dimensions
length : 1048.41 meters
beam : 738 meters
Depth : 238 meters

So what we're saying is there are scaling inconsistencies with the D?

Most definitely. I wonder if the other ships have similar scaling inconsistencies? And what does this say about the new movie Enterprise's scale? Oh, the fun of debating starship sizes!

The guy who made that ship apparently lost all the data on his harddrive so never finished it. However he started this:

Which is pretty awesome.

I remember an old image that superimposed the D over the Paramount lot for scale as well, actually, and it covered the whole area!

I don't get it...the Galaxy is 642. Why would the "real" ship be longer?
