I can't say that Star Trek XI was my favorite Trek movie in terms of make-up. I didn't like the look of several of the signature aliens in the movie, from the long-faced bar guy, to the quarter faced Rura Penthe snitch, to oysterboy-Keenser. The aliens had more of a Star Wars alien look, than a Star Trek alien look, IMO. Whether or not the Oscar was deserved, i don't know.

'Deserved' is a totally different question. Has many answers I imagine.

Congrats to Star Trek on winning its first Oscar for Best Make-Up. The franchise has finally broken through.

For some reason, I am not surprised...
![]() Whether it was deserved or not (personally I'm hard pressed to think of a film from the past 12 months that did better on the makeup front), whether or not it was a 'consolation' award, the fact is, Star Trek won an Oscar. That makes it an Oscar-winning film, something that is without Trek precedent, and something that is well worth celebrating. Unless of course you hate the film, and, moreover, have a low opinion of those who did enjoy it, in which case by all means continue to indulge in your sneering superiority complex. |

Its a 7th place trophy.
I don't celebrate under achievement. I'll celebrate once Trek gets to Honorable Mention level 4th place Trek has been around longer than anyone else on the stage. 45 years...It's time to get in the conversation for special effects.
