Have us see Kirk face the Vampire Cloud for the first time and since the timeline has changed, this time around have Kirks father figure Admiral Pike killed by the Cloud instead of Garrovick. Have the Cloud with great cgi effects be seen draining blood from its victims from planets as they helplessly try to defend themselves against a indestuctible alien entity. The loss of Pike will shake Kirk to his core and make him wise up and realize the dangers of space when dealing with unknowns.

Not a bad idea...but they would need other multiple ideas surrounding that to fill it out.

Good, but it needs more Harry Mudd.

Sorry but I just can't get behind yet more straightforward remaking of old TOS shows. It's an OK idea, but that kind of thing is not really what I'm wanting from the sequel if it can be avoided.

It needs more Cowbell :P
Actually, not bad. I'd actually have Captain Garrovick encountering the thing in the beginning while on a Survey mission of the area. The Enterprise then has to investigate what happened, and has it's encounter with the cloud. Perhaps the Cloud could be threatening some Federation worlds. What if this thing actually reaches a Colony, and was inadvertantly led there by chasing the Enterprise? The additional angle could be the reaction of the Colony to the tragedy of the massive loss due to the creature, and the debate between Spock and McCoy about destroying the creature, perhaps because it is the only one they've ever encountered. Perhaps the new Colony could even be the new Vulcan Colony mentioned in the first movie?

And Cyrano Jones. And some Greek gods. And a salt vampire.

Yes as I said in the OP. The loss should be Captain Pike.
