Okay, a few of you will slaughter me for saying this, but I actually didn't think the new Enterprise was very much bigger than any of the other incarnations of the original NCC-1701. In fact, I thought it was actually SMALLER. Here's my comparison chart:

LENGTH:

XI 1701 - 265 meters
TOS 1701 - 289 meters
TMP 1701 - 305 meters

This assumes that the bridge placement is on what most consider to be Deck 2, which would help explain the large size of the bridge deck itself. As for other parts of the ship, that is what this thread is for. Based upon windows placement on my playmates Enterprise toy, I'd give a rough estimate at about 15 decks. I do not have my other model ships with me, though, so I can't recall exactly how many decks the other ships have. But if I remember correctly, I think based on windows placement the refit Enterprise/Ent-A has about 18 decks.

The secondary hull seems to be a wide open space, I have no idea how many decks are in the saucer section or the "neck".

Again, based solely on windows placement, we can give a guess at the deck count:

Saucer: 5 decks
Neck: 5 decks
Engineering: 8 decks

Wait a minute - huh? I thought it was only 15 decks! But if you do the math this clearly adds up to 18 decks! All right, everybody, forget the playmates toy of the ship for now, and let's start looking at actual illustrations of the ship. Schematics can be found here:

A number of questions need answering before we can have a descent estimate:

1 - Are all decks the same height?
2 - How tall is a Deck?
3 - Do Most/All Decks have Windows?
4 - Are there service tunnels etc. between the decks?

Anyways, I don't think the exact number of decks has been established yet. But since the Enterprise E gained at least five decks between FC and Nemesis in the movies I wouldn't entirely take any figure for granted!

Large ships don't need service tunnels between Decks.
Small ships have more tech traveling through multiple Decks and tend to have larger decks.

Oh, goodness yep.

Picard says she has 24 decks in FC and yet in Nemesis Riker fights with the Reman on deck 29.

Figure that one out!

And even if it's a refit (other things have been changed after INS as well), there are still only 24 decks on the bridge's MSMD
