You have frequently pointed out the artificial humour in INS, so thanks to you for this insight.

I respect their attempt at brightening things up after First Contact, but it just falls flat for the most part. Spiner steals the comedic stuff as usual, because he's really quite good at it...with the rest of them, something didn't feel right.

The Enterprise is often seen as a character in it's own right and is of course much loved by fans, is interesting how the film was very successful whilst spending so little time in space.
Loved the humour, thought the scene with Kirk, Spock and Gillian in the truck was gold. G: You guys like itallian? K: yes, S: no, K: yes, S: no, K: yes, S: no, K: yes, S: no. K: yes, I love itallian, and so do you S: yes... comic gold. |

And it was as if she had never gone away...

It is funny how in that film though, you don't really miss her. You're so into the story.

How would you even stick the Enterprise into this movie?
You can't land it in Golden Gate Park, eliminating the need for a common rendezvous point. Now how is Gillian Taylor supposed to find them? In a way that is cinematically interesting? You could still build the whale tank abord Enterprise, but you couldn't crash the ship into the bay (not on the post-ST:TMP budget, anyway). You couldn't block a torpedo from the whaling ship with it. You'd be scanning for the whales from orbit during your next casual pass over the Pacific Ocean. Might as well insert the fade-to-blacks every twelve minutes and have composer Leonard Rosenman add a ST fanfare every time the story cuts back to the ship. |

STVI had plenty of "cow bell" though! Though one can never have enough cow bell...
