One of the better ones, lots of good humor.

It's an excellent show, both from a Trekkie and sci-fi fan perspective.

One of my favourite Trek movies with great humour that is never (TOS-style-)silly. Just compare the ease with which McCoy deals with the temporal non-interference directive and causal paradoxes ("How do we know he didn't invent the thing?") to the seriousness with which later series approached such issues.
And last but not least Voyage Home proved that Trek can be about something important and be fun at the same time. |

I haven't seen this movie yet, perhaps because I didn't understand how global warming is supposed to lead to a new ice age. I am aware that it might become a bit colder in Europe because the Gulf stream might change its path, but icy cold? Makes no sense to me.
Well, the difference between subtlety and gross exaggeration. I rather take Scotty's "captain, there be whales here" over "the world will end and you are all gonna die". |

Easily tied with II as my personal favorite Trek movie. In so many ways, it's just not the kind of movie either the TNG producers or Team Abrams would ever make. This one was my first real introduction to Trek at age 12. I also maintain that it 'looks' nicest of the TOS films, though you wouldn't call it epic in either the visual or the operatic sense of the word. |

Isn't it great that the crew go to San Fransico to save some humpback whales?

And Sarek finally resolves his differences with Spock. Most kind.

* - To say it with Oscar Wilde: "In matters of great importance, style and not sincerity is the vital thing." Kirk's playfulness has infected everyone and everything in this movie. Which is true to a certain degree for all TOS movies, the playfulness and the atmosphere of living classics are their most important assets in my opinion. |
