As TMP established the ringship as part of the fictional Enterprise history, it is nice to see it again. Yes, it is ugly, but the rings are probably there to artificially create gravity.
The NX refit is terrific in my opinion, putting the secondary hull just below the ship is a sweet and simple idea.

It's because of this scene in TMP (and the TNG conference room wall models) that I cannot accept the NX-01 with the name she got

Looks kinda like it Kevin. Never saw the episode, but I have looked the ship up on Memory Alpha in the past.
