The effect should be updated and more realistic scattering and scrambling of atoms, but the sound effect accompanying it should pay homage to days gone by. Whether that's a "Cage" or "TOS" type sound effect, matters little to me.

I think that the last part of the teaser has the classic transporter sound effect, right? I really *really* like that sound - it's really musical and sounds like the transporter is trying to 'harmonize' your atoms back into place.

Nonetheless, my favourite is still ENT, so it's still possible they're still using the NX-01 transporter 100 years later...

I perfer the TOS sound effect but it wouldn't surprise me if we both in the film.

And Redshirt, a TNG reboot ,if it happens, would be waaaay down the road.

Oh, I didn't say it would be anytime soon. lol
If they'll consider rebooting a pop-culture icon like TOS, then anything's possible. That's all I'm sayin'.

I'd like to see something that pays homage to the TOS effect.

Of course, it wasn't until TNG that they used sparkles & water to create the swirling transporter effect; in the TOS days, the transporter was slow motion footage of rising bubbles created by Alka-Seltzer in a glass of water, illuminated from below by yellow light.

Of course, with CGI, JJ & co. could create something much flashier, but I think at least the rising motion of the bubbles should be maintained, as opposed to the swirling motions of the transporter in TNG.

For some reason, I can barely recall the transporter effect from “The Cage,” so I'm not looking for anything JJ does to pay homage to that; for me, it would come across as a non-sequitur.

I agree with yuor post, but do want to see "Cage" effects as well, maybe a changeover to TOS?
