I don't weigh in very much in theis part of the forum. Mainly because i have only seen the movie once at the IMAX when it came out. I think because i saw it at the IMAX, I was so over-awed with the special effects that i kind oif missed half of what was going on. So I watched it this afternoon.
On TV, the things that I thought bothered me, didn't really. And the few things that bugged me a bit still, I can forgive. I can forgive the mini-skirts, the lens flares, the water tubes and very quick promotion of Kirk. The on;y thing I really think was not good was the love thing between Uhura and Spock. I have fallen in love with the whole thing. It may not be TOS, but the acting is much better and so are the SFX (but you would expect that in this day and age.)

What's wrong with Uhura+Spock?! I never got that.

Same here, I liked that aspect of the movie.

I don't think Spock would do that. I accept that he is very vulnerable at the time cos he just lost his mother and 6 billion people on his homeworld but I think he'd be far too logical to think a relationship between colleagues on a Starship would be a good idea.
But, OTOH, it's not enough of a problem for me not to enjoy the movie because of it.

That's a good point. It does seem a little odd for Spock considering that. It was insinuated he was in a relationship with her at the academy as well, there surely are regulations against that; he being an instructor, her being a cadet. But it didn't really bother me that much.

The other vague problem I have with it is just really a problem with Hollywood and that is that there always has to be someone falling in love in every movie. It couldn't just be a space adventure.

Spock did smile when Uhura sang her love song about him.
And didn't he perform some kind of Picard maneuver on his collar when she told him to call her an attractive young lady...? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fK3Fc14xOu8

The Spock
Uhura thing was one of the things I really liked. It felt like the writers were really writing that part for themselves. ![]()

Yeah, I was kind of put off by the Spock x Uhura thing at first. But when I did a little research and ended up reminding myself that they kinda had this playful flirtation thing going on (as mostly one-sided as it may have been) in TOS, it didn't really bug me anymore.
