Budget and style issues aside, it had those things as established both visually and in dialogue.

The movie had a huge budget, they filmed it the way they did because it fit their vision.

TrekCaps.net has some piccies of those pieces of the core:
http://reboot.trekcaps.net/caps/Star...rTrek_8076.jpg It looks like they are coming out from a spot not far from the spot where that torpedo hit: http://reboot.trekcaps.net/caps/Star...rTrek_8071.jpg She had 'em. ![]()

LOL RE: Warp Core Turds !!!!
I'm curious JamesTKirk1701, what did the reactor, core or cores of the TOS Enterprise look like? What episode did we actually see it in?

Technically that big red window was the warp core.

You mean the chicken wire with the long array of pipes was the Warp Core?
If true, it looks like it would have been multiple smaller cores, and not the central core. I always figured that those long pipes making the triangular arch kind of continued up into the Nacelle struts, and that just behind them was the shuttlebay area, but that wasn't established. It's also possible that there was some kind of warp core assembly below that red cross-hatch area, and the warp core itself was directly located there. This being the case, we still don't know how many reactor chambers there were, or what they looked like. Besides, technology obviously went a different line with the Alternate Reality, so there's no conflict with TOS anyway.

I assume you mean the area behind the grating as seen here (thanks TrekCore):
