I was just over at Memory Alpha when I read this quote from when Kirk meets Uhura for the first time in the bar:

"So...you're a cadet, you're studying - what's your focus?"
"Xenolinguistics. You have no idea what that means..."
"Study of alien languages. Morphology, phonology, syntax - means you've got a talented tongue."

Now to me it's always been clear that Kirk said "you're stunning" as opposed to "you're studying". Although the word "studying" would make much more sense given the context of the entire quote and the fact that it's followed by the question "what's your focus?", every time I watched this scene, I heard "stunning" instead of "studying". Unfortunately I'm at work right now so I can't pop the DVD and watch it again and therefore I've decided to ask your opinions in the meantime.

Did Kirk say "stunning" or "studying"? Could the Star Trek bible be wrong?!

i remember he said she was fine earlier in the scene. I thought I heard stunning but it was probably studying, Kirk was drunk at the time.

It sounded like studying to me as well. The juxtaposition of "stunning" and "what's your focus" would not make much sense to me as a casual listener of the conversation.
