Better Crew Quarters In The Film?
I love TOS, but hated the crew quarter sets.
Do you think we'll see better ones?

I always thought that Kirk had better quarters in TOS than he did even in Star Trek VI!

i'd like to see something more in line a cross betwen TOS and movie era quarters.

Good point, Zardoz!
I hated the TOS crew quarters too. They lacked room for individuality. Now I know, Star Fleet is military and military gives a damn about individuality. But still...do they have to live in cages? The TNG quarters were so gracious. Wow!

Yeah, but part of that I know was due to budget. But come on, a closet sized room???

Right, Zardoz! I totally agree.
Now, I've seen cabins in submarines... unbelievable! Prisoners are provided with more space in their cells than these brave boys and girls. Yet, I think a Star Fleet ship that is supposed to go on a 5 year mission should show some sort of improvement and provide more than just basic creature comforts.

You are right! Well they had that tiny rec room, and tiny arburitum, and spposedly a bowling alley and pool (both tiny sized too probably.)...LOL

As I recall, Roddenberry had to fight for the crew to have individual quarters...the NBC execs wanted to show mass "bunks" for the lower ranking members of the crew as that more closely parallels what happens in the military. Roddenberry thought people deserved a space to call their own.
Sadly, due to budget restraints, the rooms tended to all look exactly the same. At least, in the new movie, it would be nice if there were different bed spreads....though, didn't Uhura have a pretty fluffy set of quarters? At least, she did when Elaan of Troyius got to use them....
