Fascinating. It seems the language is spoken in the northernmost region of France, which unfortunately is NOT where Jean-Luc was born. What's wrong with the writers, did they think that would be too much of a coinscidence for us to handle? After everything else we've already been through?? Really?

Interesting... I actually remember hearing about "chtimi" at some point (even though I'm French Canadian, our culture is very much exposed and linked to that of our French cousins). But I had no idea that the official name for that particular dialect was "Picard". Nice!

Well, it would be pretty coincedental, after all, you get loads of English people with the surname prefix 'Mc' and 'Mac' who have never been to Scotland, and that is a whole other country! I am sure there are lots of 'Picard's and 'Piccard's spread right round France, and Jean-Luc's anscestors will have come from there eventually!

And is there a divide between French French and Canadian French? Or is Canadian French kept very much the same as French French?

I think they're the same, cause I can't speak either!
