I really do think that's the reason why they created this new ship that way...I think that makes the new design more retarded.

Funny, I thought about the warp drive FX a few days ago and hope the make it more... well... logical to what the warp drive is said to work like.

So I thought about what I know about the whole warp field thing and how it bends space and realized that the ship can by no means appear stretched. As soon as the warp field is activated all light coming from the ship would have to be bended around it. That means it would get invisible during warpflight. Only from behind you would see the ship but from all directions at the same time.

Now, I have an effect in my head that is almost impossible to explain, but I will try. To understand it you need to put some thoughts into it for yourself though:

When the warp field gets activated it would start to warp arround the ship. Lets say it starts at its front and builds a sphere all around towards the ships aft-side until the warpfield is a bowl. During this process the light gets bended and we would see how the ships front sides become visible, then starboard and port and upper side and lower side, but all together. It would look really weird and strange. Finally the ship would be gone.

I could imagine that effect to look really phaszinating. But I have some doubts that remain, because its not so... well... swoosh?
