I'm sure everyone will have a personal opinion of what songs defined the decade for them, but above and beyond that, what sells the most, or gets the most downloads is what the majority of people are listening to in a given timeframe, so it defines that timeframe. Personally, i like golden-age rap, not the new stuff.

Agree, regarding these past 10 yrs. It isn't like past decades say the 40s, 50s, 60s, etc... where social trends and attitudes remained pretty stagnant for each 10-year period. Each period was more easily "defined" in song.

Personally, I haven't listened to anything new since 1985 (almost) so I could never answer this question.

I'm with you on the post-85 thing, but may I recommend Radiohead? IMO, their best 3 albums are OK Computer, The Bends, and Amnesiac.

I don't know alot of new music but I like the fact that Radiohead got there name from a Talking Heads(my favorite 80's band) song.
An interviewer once ask the lead singer(?) of Radiohead who he likes. He recommended a band called Clinic. I like their cool/odd little songs alot.
