I used to love Star Blazers as a kid, I'm afraid to rewatch any of it as an adult because I fear it will not be the same.

It's not. I tried to watch it with a friend awhile back and the action is still fun but the scenes in between are pretty bad with the hokey dubbing. There was a scene where Venture was telling Wildstar how bad he felt for him after losing his brother, and he was real heartfelt about it. Wildstars' reply in the American version was a very glum "Yeeeaaaahhh." We were rolling in the floor but after awhile it was just more than we could take.

Sometimes these things are best left as fond childhood memories

I was actually a member of the Starblazers Fan Club once. It lasted long enough for me to receive one apparently bi-annual newsletter and then stepped into some X-file never to be heard from again. No refund of course.

Well it's about time. Been waiting for a live action reprisal for years. I kinda hope this is for real and not some fan made teaser.

Anime and Japanese movies rarely if ever make it to good American dialogue translations.

I attribute this to the cruddy dialogue skillz of the Japanese.

Hmmm. Could be interesting, but the look kinda reminds me of some of the bad live-action Japanese scifi movies (not the CGI parts). My first thought was that they should have updated the uniforms from the late 70s era originals. But considering Star Trek perhaps retro is in. And Kodai/Wildstar still has the same 70s shaggy haircut.

These days with Transformers making a ton of money I would have thought Macross would have been the obvious choice for a live-action movie.

I'd bet real money if this does well, Macross would be next.
