Whoever said Pike was handicapped by the end of the film? As far as I could tell he was just recouping.

Now that I think of it... Seriously, it would be a perfect way to satisfy the demands of the LGBT folks. Just a line from Pike that he'll go home to his husband on Earth. It wouldn't be in-your-face and yet it would be an important character who is respected.
