Default Why was Pike in a wheelchair at the end?

Why was Pike in a wheelchair at the end? Was that a result of the creature that Nero put in Pike's mouth?

Yes. Plus as an homage to the original Pike who was wheelchair bound.

So, what exactly did the creature do to Pike to paralyze him?

Perhaps that particular creature attaching itself to the brain stem has a debilitating effect on humanoids, unlike the Ceti Eel from TWOK.

There are a lot of motor pathways running through the brainstem.

Btw, they must be related to the Conspiracy aliens...

It has not been said, though, that he is confined to that wheelchair for life this time around. I expect to see him back on his feet again.

There are probably many life forms that would operate in such a fashion as the Ceti Eels and the Star Trek bugs do in the Trek universe.

Just like there are many variations of things like Scorpions, Spiders and such Earth bugs!

The Ceti eels don't mess with the brainstem. They wrap themselves around the cerebral cortex

Strangely enough, I was aware of that.

However, I was pointing out that there is no reason for there not to be variations of how similar looking creatures operate.

Not all spiders (for example) are the same physical size or are deadly, or catch prey the same way, but share a lot of other commonalities.

And yet, they are all related to each other
