There are worse that could happen of course but I've idea how what of the scenario revealed could coordinate with Kirk's history discussed in the episode 'Obsession' - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Obsessi...TOS_episode%29 (without sounding too obsessed meslf)...

Any thoughts?

It's certainly possible given the general time frame for the original incident. On the other hand, we have no indication how much screen time -- if any -- will be spent on Kirk's service aboard the Farragut. This event may be too 'time consuming' to include in the film, but we'll just have to wait and see.

half of the farrugut crew was wiped out by the cloud thingy. and I think it mentions garrovick (the captain) in some way being "obsessed".

No, When the whole thing on the farragut went down Kirk hesistated on firing at the creature and it killed most of the crew, and it made him become obsessed with distroying the creature.

And couldent they use the same set as the enterprise bridge just redress it?
i mean both the E and the Farragut are connies

I think the biggest problem it presents is that having been Kirk's first deep space mission....11 years prior to the Enterprise discovering the cloud being... That combined with Spock having been a Star Fleet Officer for 18 years (as stated in The Enterprise Incident, I believe they are from the same season) throws a huge honking monkey wrench into the idea the "boys" were at the Academy together and going out on their first voyages together...

Not really, mr spock had to of taken command school at some point, so did kirk, whats saying they diddent take it at the same time?

There is no canon reference for potential command officers being sent back to the Academy to get training. All Academy references refer to cadets in training, not established officers.
