Default RIP Dan O'Bannon

Just heard this morning, Dan O'Bannon (Sgt. Pinback in Dark Star) has passed away. No details as of this posting. O'Bannon was also the writer/creator of the "Alien" franchise, the writer of "Blue Thunder" and the director of "Return of the Living Dead: Part I"

(He actually has a lot more to his resume, but these are the ones that popped into my head without looking.)

The guy was a great creator and writer. Everything he was involved in became a favorite of mine... hell, even that god-awful remake of "Invaders From Mars" had it's moments...

RIP

Didn't realize how much he'd done beyond Alien.

Man, he wasn't that old, I thought he was much older.

RIP, Dan.

He, along with his college buddy, John Carpenter, created the movie "Dark Star." Then Dan wrote the movie "Alien." Then he went on to do scripts for movies like the remake of "Invaders From Mars," "Lifeforce" and "Blue Thunder." He was part of the "Total Recall" movie until they changed directors and the producers decided to make that movie suck. (Mostly because they didn't understand it at all.) Instead, he did a different Philip K. Dick story with "Screamers" starring Peter Weller. He was key to bringing swiss artist HR Geiger to the attention of Hollywood, along with Ron Cobb. He was involved with remaking the Quatermass movies recently, but that project got stuck in development hell.

Darkstar made me feel better when I was feeling rough with a cold.
