Nestor Carbonell has been linked to the role of villain Khan in the forthcoming Star Trek sequel.
The actor, who stars in Trek director JJ Abrams's TV shows Lost and Fringe, is being eyed for the part of genetically engineered superhuman Khan Noonien Singh, according to website Coming Soon.
Khan, portrayed by Ricardo Montalban, first appeared in the 1967 Star Trek episode 'Space Seed'. The character later returned for feature film The Wrath Of Khan.
Trek actor John Cho recently said that he wanted to see Khan back as a villain in the new film.
Looks like this Khan reboot is really going to happen, Abrams has talked about it, Cho has talked about it and practically everyone else has expected it! Sounds like its going to be a great film and we know Abrams likes working with specific actors but is this guy really the right guy for the job?

You know, this is what doomed the franchise before, was rehashing everything multiple times. As large as this universe is, why keep this up?

Heck, why not have a klingon war type thing then, with kirk meeting a young general chang (ST VI)...

How about the andromedans from the OS?

Doomsday machines?

heck..SPACE HIPPIES!!! Except they're trying to outlaw the impulse engines on starships because of pollution.

Rumors abound at this stage of production.

I think J.J. is going for a "best hits" rehash of all pre-existing Trek films, that's what Trek XI was.

Why does everyone have to be hatin' on the space hippies????????

You know what? After watching the DVD commentaries last night, I now trust Mr. Abrams et al to do whatever they want to with Trek. If it wasn't for him, we wouldn't even be talking about new movies let alone watching them.

Considering to remake Khan is pathetic, considering to remake Khan after they just have done a movie with RomulanKhan is insulting.

Remember that interview where J.J. said he needed Nero to be the embodyment of evil? That's why J.J. needs to have a villan in his films, he believes in good vs. evil, and the personification of evil. Khan is Kirk's most formidable villan, though i would prefer to see Kor. I doubt this new actor can play Khan as well as Montalban. They would have to redo the entire 'Space Seed' story in this new universe to bring it to a new audience. So there you have it, the Trek XII will be a big budgeted version of 'Space Seed."
