Default The DVD has been edited from the movie release....

I just had a most emotional evening watching the DVD in the comfort of my bedroom on a HD set - but I noticed one major change that indicates this DVD has been edited materially from the movie release....

I saw the movie seven times - as recently as September - and there was always one scene that highlighted a "continuity breach" in the story. It was a huge goof and I saw it from the first showing.... When Kirk is aboard the Narada and Nero left him to run to the bridge, Kirk jumps down to another level and slips off the edge, clinging on (klingon?) as Eyal approaches. There is a top-down shot of him in that scene - and in every movie showing, you clearly see Eyal's Romulan disruptor lying on the pad that Kirk is clinging to. The disruptor lying there was taken from a LATER scene after Eyal had bitten the dust and fallen over (and dropped his gun) - but for some reason they inserted this into the movie before Kirk and Eyal even had their confrontation.

It was a cute discontinuity and a goof - but one I was happy to see as a slight imperfection in the movie that I noticed...

Guess what - watched the DVD tonight and - NO DISTUPTOR on the pad.

They edited it for DVD and fixed the goof.

I hate to argue about them making the movie more perfect that it was - but I am a little sad to see this goof go....

But I had the time of my life watching this at home....

JB

I think it's fun just for FYI personally.

Shows you how observant I am - I've seen the theatrical version of the movie many, many times and I never noticed that goof. Or any goof.

I agree it does not "make or break" a film, but it's just fun.

I wonder if they fixed the goof in the scene where Kirk is explaining to Pike why they need to stop the ship before they get to Vulcan. If you listen closely, Kirk says "Kelvin attacked a place on the edge of Klingon space". I haven't gotten mine yet, so I don't know. Just check that scene and see if it is still there. That was a very slight goof, but I noticed it.

That's odd, I don't remember that.

Now this is more like it. Nice to see finally see Randy Pausch, I did not catch his cameo in the theatre.

Kind of strange that Kirk immediately thought about the Kelvin when he heard the news about "a lightning storm in space" while Pike who wrote his doctor thesis about the Kelvin did not.
