Nice idea, but I think the best we can reasonably hope for was that we police ourselves. We shouldn't really need a pseudo-mod to remind us when we are approaching that line - I think each of us ought to be able to accept a little responsibility for engaging brain before posting.

Without the power to delete posts or impose restrictions on a poster, a mod appointed by us wouldn't have the ability to do much of anything other than say "bad poster" which is what most of us do now already. I don't see how this would make a difference at all.
