When I installed Chrome it asked me if it could send info to Google. I told it no.

However since Google made it open source there is the hope that some clever programmers will reduce google chrome to a google chrome light version that isn't collecting anything.

But I stay for firefox though, the new firefox has everything I need.

Our federal office for security in information technology says that chrome shouldn't be used.

Very short moment; Safari 4 is coming. One of my many hats is Apple developer, so I've been using Safari 4 for about a week now, and its render time is insanely fast. On a good connection, you'd be hard pressed to tell the difference between surfing the web and viewing pages cached on your own machine. Do bear in mind that caveat: on a good connection. Obviously, no browser is going to give you broadband speed on a dial-up connection, but Safari 4 imposes the least barrier to your bandwidth.

No surprise. Not the smartest the thing to use the web browser and the search engine of one company. Little diversification should provide more security

Actually, I suspect it has more to do with Google's suspected data mining practices than anything else. I don't personally mind it, as I typically surf in Safari's 'Privacy Mode' and don't hand over information I'd prefer no one have in the first place. Still, for corporate and government applications, I can see why that would present a serious concern.

On the other hand, I also suspect that all search engines enact policies and procedures similar to Google's, as Google's progenitor, BackRub, was the template on which most of them were initially based anyway.
