I want it all! I want the backstory on the characters...and, knowing Abrams' work, I bet we get it...but I also want that exploration of the hints we were given...I don't think it would take much screen time and I think it would cement the reboot in the hearts of the die hard fans.

I want it all too, as you well know, but we know at best we get 2 hours not 14 to tell this story..

It would be definitely be interesting to see a backstory for the main characters. I guess that depends on how long they want the film to last. As far as Uhura and Kirk...hey you never know. Times have changed since they filmed the actual tv show. They may not be so skittish this time around.

That would put an entirely new interpretation on Kirk's obvious reluctance...indeed, it might resolve a longstanding issue of whether Trek was racist because Kirk looked so angry at having to kiss the beautiful young woman...

If they were presented as former lovers who decided they could work together it would make that scene less icky.

But....I have to say this...it would take a load of screen time to make it clear so I don't think it's likely ...

But I love it!!!
