what if they left a copy of the prime directive.. that would be interesting
Well they left the concepts. But I would hope Kirk made good on his promise to send help.

'atomics', mmm, bring back memories of the Saquist debates, in the times of old.

Mr. Giggles and Mr. Tribble are teaming up now for a good cop, bad cop show. They're going with the working title, Tribble Heat.

It would have been nice to see the Hortas again, as well as the Lactrans (just for something different than people with rubber on their foreheads), the Caitians (verrry brief cameos in ST4TVH!), and the Edosians (wonder if they were the inspiration for Species 8472?). Was glad to see the Gorn again in Enterprise, I couldn't even be too vexed about them being sexed up as rapid-moving CGI predators. One alien race that was unceremoniously dumped from the face of creation was the race of neural parasites that invaded Starfleet Command and were the focus of the goriest Star Trek television episode of all time: A future threat revealed, the episode ends on an ominous note, and then... Nuthin'! Bupkus! EVER! Guess they weren't safe and dull enough for TNG... A pity this race wasn't revisited.

Also, regarding the Iotians: In the DC comics they simply continued on their gangster ways with Oxmyx hoarding 30% of all the world's wealth for Kirk as the Federation's "cut". In an older alien race bestiary from Bannatyne, I believe the publisher was, the Federation returned some years later to discover the Iotians had abandoned gangsterism and were all wearing Starfleet uniforms, adhering to Federation ideals, and had even made a simple starbase in orbit of the planet.
